Happy Thanksgiving Yall.

Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday was a glorious day filled with eating driving and eating. We managed to cook a 20lbs turkey -a first for me. The cats spent a lot of time yesterday standing in front of the oven licking their tiny, little, cat lips.

I believe I have found my purpose in life. Its called Trivial Pursuit DVD Pop Culture. I have always felt quite capable in Trivial Pursuit, but there were always questions about World War I and Presidents preceding Bill Clinton preventing me from feeling particularly good at it. Now those geniuses at Parker Brothers have condensed my best topics in to one game. Well I'm still pretty weak at sports, but questions about games come up from time to time. This is the second occasion that I have played, and I think that answered all most all the questions for my team both times. I'll admit I do enjoy winning, but not anywhere near as much as my partner Fouad. He was making sure that all the ladies saw him put the pie piece into the tiny Atari controller that represented us on the board. If it weren't for his efforts to help his wife win in Uno later that night, I'm sure he would have spent the night on the couch.

In other news I finally got the JET application finished. That’s a huge relief. Its leaving by supersonic atomic mail today. I'm pretty sure that’s not what its called, but I do believe that they are kind enough to send a man on in a jet pack to personally hand deliver the packet. So I'm sure it will arrive on time. On time being December 1st.

The stuff that you have to include in the packet is pretty extensive. Further compounding the whole ordeal is that just about everything must be submitted in triplicate -three copies of your birth certificate, transcripts ect. The most interesting was the recommendation letters. Each of the three letters must be accompanied by a form that rates my abilities on a scale from 1 to 5. All this goes in an envelope with the signature of the person across the seal, thus ensuring that I, the applicant, can see nothing of these letters and forms.

The hope is that by this time next year, Peaches and I will be well entrenched in schoolin' Japanese children in these here squiggles called English. I've been reading a lot of things about the living in Japan as a foreigner and it sounds like a giant adventure. We will see thought. If our application scores above a 50 then we will get an interview here that the consulate. Then if that goes well we will get to go. So we won't know for sure until May I believe.

All of this has given me more resolve to learn katakana and more kanji. Hirigana is old hat.
